A World Ablaze

As global temperatures continue to rise year over year, singed land follows it. 2025 was simply a continuation of a long standing pattern of worsening fires.

A Global View of Wildfires in 2025

In 2025, wildfires scorched land across nearly every inhabited continent. The map below shows the total area burned in each country. By hovering over any nation you can see the total land burnt there. Darker shades indicate higher burn areas, with the most severely affected regions concentrated across Sub-Saharan Africa, Australia, and parts of Asia.

* A hectare is a unit of land area equal to 10,000 square meters — roughly the size of a standard city block. One million hectares is about the size of a small U.S. state like Connecticut. *
